Keeping customers moving with tough logistical tagging

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Alan Posey

Background

Alan Posey began his journey at MidSouth Tag & Label in 1990, joining the art department while finishing his degree. What started as a part-time position quickly evolved into a long-term career as he explored other areas of production. Early in his tenure, Alan also worked as a press operator — an experience that gave him valuable insight into both the technical and creative sides of the business.

As digital art systems began to replace traditional processes in the printing industry, Alan’s background in computer science positioned him to help lead the transition. His familiarity with both technology and visual design made him a natural fit as MidSouth began adapting to a more digital workflow.

Role Development

Now serving as Art Manager, Alan plays a critical role in the daily operations of MidSouth’s production environment. He not only leads the art department but also oversees the Tagger Department, which includes managing its many parts and programs, as well as handling plate production, one of the most time-intensive and crucial steps in the printing process.

His day typically involves reviewing incoming jobs, coordinating with other departments, managing meeting schedules, and handling the technical side of plate-making. When new materials or tooling needs arise, Alan is the first point of contact — evaluating how to best approach a job and communicating those needs to the appropriate teams.

He also built out our advanced customer order portal, a huge benefit of working with us for plenty of clients who save time and resources doing quick online ordering.

Favorite Projects & Clients

Throughout his career, Alan has played a hands-on role in countless successful projects and client collaborations. One of the more creatively satisfying projects he recalls involved a brand called Ziggler Meats. This work required a higher level of artistic input, with detailed photography and color work — a refreshing change from more tag-based, functional label designs. For Alan, seeing those final products come off the press was a highlight.

Another proud moment came when MidSouth successfully brought on its largest lumber client. For Alan, the win represented more than a new account — it reflected the hard work, problem-solving, and collaboration that the entire team contributed. It was a shared success and a meaningful milestone in the company’s growth.

Hobbies & Interests

Outside of work, Alan enjoys woodworking and CNC design. He owns a CNC machine that allows him to craft custom-designed pieces — from cutting boards to intricate 3D wood carvings. He also experiments with 3D printing, though he prefers the functionality and finished look of his CNC work.

Vision for the Future

Alan is excited about the continued investment happening at MidSouth — especially innovations like the purchase of new equipment and the implementation of new systems that help staff work more efficiently. He looks forward to seeing how the company continues to evolve, particularly as customer needs change and new challenges emerge.

With decades of experience and a deep understanding of both art and manufacturing, Alan remains a steady force for innovation, teamwork, and quality at MidSouth Tag & Label.
